Friends of Wick Court

March 26, 2018

For nearly 20 years, groups of up to 36 primary school children from mostly urban areas have been coming to our Farm with their teachers for a week long stay. They take part in a carefully structured programme alongside our farm staff gaining hands-on experience of farming and the countryside. They also visit and work on local farms.

Beekeeping
For many of them this will be their first real experience of how their food is produced. Children also learn about the importance of conservation and sustainability. Activities include animal husbandry (cows, pigs, sheep, poultry and horses), gardening, bee keeping, cooking, and crafts.

While the core activity for Wick Court will always remain bringing urban children into the countryside to learn about farming and food, we would like to develop our links with local schools, groups and individuals to enable them to use our valuable resources and facilities, much of which has received support from local fundraising and initiatives. This will involve groups visiting for the day during term time or longer periods during school holidays. We also wish to encourage more fundraising locally.

You can become a Friend of Wick Court from as little as £3 per month.Your monthly gift as a Friend will have a big impact!

As a Friend, you will be helping us:
– Improve access and facilities for staff and visitors to the Farm.
– Improve the sustainability of the farm and buildings through the development of energy efficiency and the installation of a reed bed water purification system.
– Ensure that Wick Court is more widely known by organisations in Gloucestershire to encourage more local financial and other support, and more use of the facilities.

Life Membership is also available for a one-off gift of £200 for an individual or £350 for a couple.
