Location – Nethercott House, Devon
Salary – £18,000 – £18,500
Contract – Full time, Permanent
An exciting new opportunity has arisen for a full-time General Assistant to join our amazing charity, which provides children from disadvantaged backgrounds with a wonderful week-in-wellies at our farms in the beautiful British countryside. This unique experience can be life changing. Visiting children are immersed in the natural world of countryside, food, and farming life where they participate in the seasonal tasks of the day: sowing, growing and harvesting in our kitchen gardens; caring for livestock and looking after the land; and cooking up a home-grown feast in the farmhouse kitchen. Spending time working alongside real farmers fosters children’s independence and helps them to grow in confidence, develops their self-esteem, and encourages them to become more resilient. At our heritage farms – and in partnership with our commercial farming neighbours – children experience the benefits of collaboration, enjoy plenty of physical activity, good food, and fresh air, and discover the magical rural environment that is full of new words, sounds and experiences to inspire their creativity.
About the Role
The General Assistant will support the work of the charity across all aspects of our residential provision. This role covers a wide range of duties, offering a really varied experience of work for an enthusiastic team member who wants to develop a broad range of skills. A typical week might involve directly supporting the work of the kitchen team to help prepare nutritious meals based on produce from our own farm, supporting the housekeeper with cleaning and setting up the house for new visitors and helping the outdoor team to run sessions for our visiting children.
This position is a farm-based role which will require only very occasional travel within the Charity’s regions in order to attend training or meetings, normally at one of our farms in Devon/Pembrokeshire/Gloucestershire. The successful candidate must have the ability to travel between all four remotely located sites, across Devon, Pembrokeshire and Gloucestershire, with expenses for travel reimbursed by the Charity.
