On Friday 15 July we held a special evening at Nethercott House, where Michael Morpurgo told the powerful and deeply moving story of young Albert and his beloved horse Joey, accompanied by the highly acclaimed and former War Horse National Theatre songman, Ben Murray.
The combination of Michael’s theatrical rendition of the story, complete with fabulous accents for the French and German characters, interspersed by Ben’s hauntingly beautiful voice had many of the audience in tears. One guest said he thought it was the best theatrical event he had ever attended.
The evening also included a hog roast, kindly donated by The Big Pig, and a bar provided by the local pub the Duke of York.
