Congratulations St Woolos!

Congratulations St Woolos!

We’re absolutely delighted that St Woolos School Primary School has been shortlisted as one of this year’s School Travel Award finalists in the ‘My Best School Trip’ category for their Year 5 residential to Lower Treginnis earlier this year. The award recognises the rich and rewarding experience that outstanding school visits give children.

The school, from Newport in Wales, were entered by headteacher Rhian Milton. In a feature on the School Travel Organiser website, Rhian said: “Our main reason for seeking this kind of residential experience was to improve the children’s understanding of food and the impact that food and the outdoors can have on our health and well-being.

“We also wanted a learning experience that we were able to bring the learning back to school and it have a long lasting impact and be a huge part of the St Woolos curriculum.”

Rhian added: “The experience has influenced classroom projects, informed healthy eating initiatives, and inspired outdoor learning back at school. For our children – many of whom live in areas where access to nature is limited and safety is a concern – this residential was life-changing. It gave them the confidence to explore, the belief that they belong in the outdoors, and the understanding that their choices matter.”

Gethin Jones, Farm School Manager at Lower Treginnis said: “It is wonderful to see that St Woolos has been recognised for their school visit to our Lower Treginnis farm, they were fantastic farmers for a week! We’re thrilled that their experience with us has inspired further outdoor learning and projects in school, we hope they continue to feel the benefits of their visit for a long time to come.”

The final will take place in London on Friday 21 November – we’ll be keeping our fingers crossed for you St Woolos! You can read the full nomination on the School Travel Awards website
