Back in December, a group of 30 students from Nescot College in Surrey spent a hugely enjoyable week at our Nethercott House farm. During their time with us, they broadened their knowledge of farming, sustainability and the natural world, enhancing and embedding learning from their animal care courses.
The week also provided opportunities for personal development and increased wellbeing too; from cooking classes to gaining confidence in spending time away from home and making new, and lasting connections with peers.
In this short video, two Nescot students share their thoughts about the week and what is has offered them.
The benefits continue to be realised after the young people have returned to college. Nescot Curriculum Manager for Animal Studies, Leah Buckland, told us:
“We have been lucky enough to have visited Nethercott House for two years in a row now and it has honestly been the most rewarding experience for staff and students. We were able to witness our students build their resilience and confidence in a new setting with the help of the fantastic Farms for City Children team.
“The students were able to experience new things which really helped push them out of their comfort zone, building on current skills. We have witnessed long-lasting effects on the students’ performance and engagement with the natural world since coming back to college. We have observed learners make friends for life who still reference their experiences from Nethercott! We cannot wait to return this year.”
We can’t wait to welcome them back!
