We’re absolutely thrilled to have been shortlisted as a School Travel Award finalist in the ‘My Best School Trip’ category. The award recognises the rich and rewarding experience that outstanding school visits give children.
We were nominated by Rhian Milton, headteacher of St Woolos Primary School. The school, from Newport in Wales, visited our Lower Treginnis farm earlier this year.
Rhian said: “Our main reason for seeking this kind of residential experience was to improve the children’s understanding of food and the impact that food and the outdoors can have on our health and well-being.
“We also wanted a learning experience that we were able to bring the learning back to school and it have a long lasting impact and be a huge part of the St Woolos curriculum.”
Rhian added: “The experience has influenced classroom projects, informed healthy eating initiatives, and inspired outdoor learning back at school. For our children – many of whom live in areas where access to nature is limited and safety is a concern – this residential was life-changing. It gave them the confidence to explore, the belief that they belong in the outdoors, and the understanding that their choices matter.”
Gethin Jones, Farm School Manager at Lower Treginnis said: “It’s a real honour to be named a finalist and to have an opportunity to share why we do what we do at Farms for City Children. To see children gain confidence, connect with nature and take that learning back into the classroom is special. It shows just how vital outdoor learning is – not just for a week but for shaping attitudes and choices long after the trip ends.”
The final will take place in London on Friday 21 November – wish us luck! You can read the full nomination on the School Travel Awards website
