Women in Dairy Conference: celebrating voices, views and virtual tools

Last week, Farm School Manager Stevie Edge-McKee and Corporate Fundraising Manager Susannah Mair enjoyed an inspirational day at this year’s Women in Dairy Conference. The event, which brought together farmers, professionals and advocates, celebrated the passion and impact of women across the dairy sector under the theme Voices, Views and Virtual Tools.”

Stevie, drawing on her experience as Farms School Manager at Wick Court, took part in a panel discussion “Are we mooving in the right direction of labour?”. The session explored topics such as work readiness of young people, discrimination in the workplace and challenges around recruitment, retention and education.

Stevie highlighted the importance of food, farming and sustainability being embedded into the national curriculum to encourage younger people into the sector. She also noted the importance of embracing diversity, equality and inclusion in agriculture and the continued need to seek ways to achieve this.

After the event, Stevie commented: “It was uplifting and energising to be among women whose values mirror ours — connecting children with food, farming and nature alongside nurturing responsibility for the planet. It was incredibly heartening to feel such support for Farms for City Children and our work to introduce children and young people from a diverse range of backgrounds to farming and food production.”
