Presented yesterday, Wednesday 21 October, the award recognises Clare and Michael’s lifelong commitment to connecting young people with food, farming and nature through hands-on learning experiences on our farms.
Since founding Farms for City Children in 1976, Clare and Michael have inspired generations of children to discover where food comes from, care for the countryside and experience the challenges and rewards of life on a working farm. Over the last five decades, more than 108,000 children have taken part in hands-on farming experiences that build confidence, understanding and a lasting connection with nature.
The award celebrates Clare and Michael’s vision, dedication and incredible legacy as well as recognising the wider impact of Farms for City Children over the last 50 years. In announcing the award, the judges highlighted Farms for City Children’s exceptional contribution to helping young people engage with farming and food production and our commitment to enriching the lives of generations of children.
As we come to the end of our 50th anniversary, we are tremendously proud to see Clare and Michael’s vision acknowledged in this way. Their belief that every child should have the opportunity to experience the natural world first-hand continues to inspire everything we do.

You can help us create the next chapter of the incredible story that Clare and Michael began. Find out more about ways you can support us and bring even more young people to our farms.
